They call themselves Starlights. They are not all supporters of He Who Must Not Be Named, you must know that now. Many are in their final years at Hogwarts or have graduated, and they are recruiting more followers. Two groups make up the Starlights, but they have a common aim -to rid the school of half-bloods. They don't agree with interbreeding, believing muggles and wizards should be kept apart. A muggleborn is special, a half-blood is grotesque. The Embers are peaceful, spreading their message through marches and complaints to the ministry. The Flames are violent, actively making shows of half-bloods and threatening them on a regular basis. It takes a lot to be a Starlight, you have to pass their initiation tests while never letting slip to another soul what you are doing. Yet people are joining them more frequently, from all walks of life.
How many of them are there? No one really knows. The numbers are changing all the time, fluctuating according to deaths and newbies, but if you wish to find a Starlight, search by night. The general hierarchy works with a leader, deputy and up to twelve members per faction (group), and any number of groups depending on location. To be a leader you have to prove yourself to be capable of handling a halfblood situation, meaning an Ember must host a large scale peaceful protest and a Flame must murder a half-blood. People wanting to join a group are apprenticed to a member and taught a variety of techniques according to the side they have chosen.
The ones who oppose the Starlights openly call themselves Fighters of Midnight, or FoM. They are happy for muggles and magic folk to interbreed, and so often break up violent protests or marches. FoMs are not as organised as Starlights, they join the group and then work individually in small groups, with a recognised leader elected by the group. These groups can be anything from four to four hundred people large, depending on their location. Chances are if your parents are FoMs, you'll know others.
Now I must ask you, where do your loyalties lie? Are you in agreement with the Starlights? If you are, are you a peaceful Ember or an aggressive Flame? Perhaps you stand for something else, or do you oppose them completely as a FoM? Grit your teeth, hold your head high and be prepared to fight for what you believe in. Hogwarts has never been so challenging a place to study.
